Nestled in the vibrant heart of Harlem at 1685 Amsterdam Ave, Ecuatoriana Restaurant offers an authentic Ecuadorian culinary experience that transports diners straight to the rich and diverse flavors of the Andes and coastal regions. This restaurant is a true gem for lovers of Ecuadorian cuisine, featuring an array of traditional dishes crafted with care and bursting with bold, home-style flavors.
The menu is a vibrant tapestry of Ecuador’s most beloved dishes, each plate telling its own story. Signature items like the Bandeja Paisa showcase a hearty combination of rice, beans, plantains, and savory meats, while the Lomo Saltado fuses tender strips of beef with sautéed onions and tomatoes, delivering smoky and tangy notes that create a memorable flavor profile. For seafood aficionados, options such as the Shrimp Ceviche offer refreshing citrusy bites, and Pargo Frito, a perfectly fried red snapper served alongside rice or crispy patacones (fried green plantains), highlight fresh ocean flavors with a satisfying crunch.
Soups like Caldo de Gallina (hen soup) and the richer Caldo de Bola (green plantain meatball soup) are warming, comforting selections that embody Ecuador’s comforting culinary traditions. The beverage list is equally enticing, featuring fresh, vibrant batidas (fruit smoothies) such as the tropical Mango Batida and the tangy Maracuya Batida (passion fruit), refreshing the palate and amplifying the dining experience.
Guests can expect generous portions and an authentic taste of Ecuadorian home cooking, praised for its rich seasoning and balance of flavors. The overall dining atmosphere leans towards a casual, neighborhood eatery vibe, perfect for those craving genuine Ecuadorian flavors. Though some patrons have noted areas for improvement — such as a need for interior updates and smoother customer service, particularly at the take-out counter — the quality and authenticity of the food keep them coming back.
While prices lean towards the higher side for the area, many find that the experience of sampling such true Ecuadorian classics within New York City’s diverse culinary scene justifies the cost. Diners should note that gratuity is often included in the bill, streamlining the checkout process. Whether you’re stopping by to savor a steaming bowl of Sopa de Mariscos or indulging in the iconic Ecuadorian Churrasco (skirt steak with rice and beans), each bite at Ecuatoriana Restaurant is a celebration of tradition and flavor.
Ideal for both dine-in and delivery, this restaurant bridges Harlem’s dynamic neighborhood charm with the colorful, heartfelt flavors of Ecuador, making it a standout option for anyone seeking an authentic culinary adventure.
Good and tasty food. A little pricey, they put the tips with the check all together which I didn’t like because they put whatever they want for tip.
It seems to be both a restaurant and then a store at the other side. The chaulafan was excellent and they were very generous with the seafood on the paella dish. The only thing the menu said $28 or so and then the charge for it was $31. Not a huge difference but still. Also the mango and passionfruit drinks tasted amazing, very low sugar. The interior could use some redesigning and upgrades.
Food is good portion, flavorful, authentic Ecuadorian food..BUT Poor customer service at take out counter Lady asked me what I wanted before even handing me a menu then turned up the music and wouldnt lower it while I yelled my order to her. Finally just said I couldnt hear anything Ordered delivery many times before, first time I came in person Come for the food, do not expect much in the way of customer service
Plantains were very dry and the shrimp ceviche needed more lime. A bit pricey for the area but still good to have some authentic Ecuadorian food right in Harlem. Gratuity is already included fyi
